FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions About Our Grooming Services
We know that trusting someone with your pet’s grooming care is a big deal — and we want you to feel confident every step of the way. Below are some of the most common questions we hear from pet parents at Diggity DAWG Grooming. Whether you're booking for the first time or just curious about how we work, these answers will help you prepare for a great grooming experience.
How often should I groom my dog?
That depends on your dog’s breed, coat type, and lifestyle. In general:
- Short-haired dogs may only need a bath every 6–8 weeks.
- Long-haired or curly-coated breeds (like doodles, Shih Tzus, or Yorkies) should be groomed every 4–6 weeks to prevent matting.
- Double-coated breeds benefit from deshedding treatments every 6–8 weeks, especially during seasonal shedding.
We’ll help you set the right schedule based on your pet’s needs.
How often should I groom my cat?
Cats may self-groom, but professional grooming helps manage shedding, matting, and hygiene — especially for:
Long-haired breeds like Persians or Maine Coons
Overweight or senior cats who struggle to groom themselves
Cats with allergies or dry skin
A professional cat groom every 8–12 weeks is typically ideal.
Do you groom puppies or kittens?
Yes! We welcome puppies and kittens, and we recommend starting grooming as early as 12 weeks, once they’re comfortable being handled and have had their first vaccinations.
Early grooming introduces them to:
The sounds and tools of grooming (clippers, dryers, etc.)
Being touched around their paws, ears, and face
Staying calm during appointments
We go slow, reward progress, and create a positive first experience.
What if my pet is nervous or doesn’t like grooming?
We understand — many pets feel unsure at first. That’s why we’ve designed our salon to be low-stress:
No loud holding areas or stacked crates
One-on-one attention from certified, gentle groomers
Appointments spaced to reduce noise and stimulation
Calm handling techniques with plenty of patience
If your pet has anxiety or special needs, just let us know — we’ll do everything we can to make their visit safe and positive.
What grooming products do you use?
We use high-quality, all-natural grooming products that are free of harsh chemicals and safe for sensitive skin. This includes:
Hypoallergenic shampoos
Coat-specific conditioners
Skin-soothing treatments
Specialty shampoos for whitening, de-shedding, or allergy care
If your pet has known sensitivities or allergies, please mention it when booking — we’re happy to adjust products to suit their needs.
Can I request a specific haircut or style?
Absolutely! We’re happy to follow breed standards, adjust to your personal preferences, or create a unique style for your pet. During check-in, we’ll discuss:
Coat condition
Length preferences
Any areas to avoid trimming (e.g., ears, tail, etc.)
Feel free to bring photos or explain your pet’s past grooming history — it helps us deliver exactly what you're envisioning.
Do you offer anal gland expression?
Yes, anal gland expression is available as an add-on service for both dogs and cats. It’s performed externally by trained staff and included upon request or when needed based on coat condition and breed. If your vet has recommended it, just let us know.
What is your cancellation or late policy?
We ask that clients notify us of cancellations or rescheduling at least 24 hours in advance. No-shows or last-minute cancellations may result in a fee, as it prevents us from filling that slot for another client.
If you're running late, please call or text. We allow a grace period but may need to reschedule if it affects other appointments.
Do I need to bring anything to the appointment?
Not usually! Just bring:
Your pet on a secure leash or in a carrier
Any notes about allergies or behavior concerns
Your preferred payment method (we accept cash, card, etc.)
You’re welcome to stay during check-in, and we’ll contact you when your pet is ready for pickup.
